Tyrik began there as a Barber Instructor and was promoted to Program Supervisor. Tyrik was the winner of the renowned 2006 Bronner Brothers Barber Battle in Atlanta, Georgia. An audience of more than 22,000 spectators watched on August 6, 2006 as Tyrik was awarded $25,000 and given the name “X-Factor”.
In 2006, Tyrik was also recognized for a high-energy performance during Hair-Topia, a two-day celebration of black hair, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where local stylists and barbers staged dramatic runway presentations showcasing avant-garde coiffures - some of which were actually created on stage.
Tyrik won a total of eight competitions from 2006–2007, including three Glynn Jackson Golden Scissor Awards.
In 1995, Tyrik received his diploma from J.P. McCaskey High School in the School District of Lancaster.
